Penzion Zikmundov

The sheep roaming around the grounds and the wider countryside make the setting feel romantic. There’s a farm right next door, so this probably won’t suit anyone who dislikes animals or rural life. We loved it, though, from taking photos of the cows and sheep to playing with a dog or riding a horse. We’ve been to Zikmundov twice and have enjoyed both visits. The rooms and house have thoughtful details, especially the bathrooms, and the staff are wonderfully friendly. I’ve never even seen a housekeeper there who didn’t smile and say hello. The food is delicious, though it isn’t local or seasonal. We love getting away there.

The Czech countryside is stunning in every season, and the peaceful setting is a big part of the appeal. I slept so well, and the home cooking tastes amazing. The hospitality is extraordinary, whether you visit in summer or winter.

The wine cellar looks beautiful, and the self-service wine was a great idea. Breakfast and dinner were included in the 7,600 CZK we paid for two nights in a family room, and both meals were gorgeous. The room itself was a big disappointment: the shower was cold, and we had to pay extra for a dirty baby crib even though the website said it was free. The balcony is shared with the dining room, so there’s no privacy. We were also charged another 600 CZK for amenities. At this price, I expected shampoo and soap as a courtesy. The main building has been renovated beautifully, but the rest of the area looks quite old. For the cost, the overall value was very poor. There’s still room for improvement.

As someone who lives in the city, I find Zikmundov a perfect weekend escape. The natural surroundings and range of relaxation amenities help me unwind and recharge for weeks.
