Hotel Bor

I wouldn't stay here again. The restaurant is closed for the summer, and the small kitchen was dirty and dusty, with mold and in very poor shape. The apartment had two bedrooms sharing one retro-style bathroom. The rooms were just about passable, but this was the worst accommodation I've ever experienced. It felt more like a hostel than a hotel. The woman who showed us to our room spoke only Ukrainian and didn't speak any Czech.

We paid 1,945 for two adults and two children, ages 2 and 3, and the accommodation wasn't worth that price. The place feels stuck in time: every bed in the so-called apartment was different, as were the heavy duvets. The carpets had been vacuumed, but our children's feet felt like they'd been walking through coal when they went barefoot. The hot water only came through lukewarm, not hot enough to burn, but warm enough for legionella to thrive, as I saw it. The only renovated part seems to be reception, so this is a hostel, not a hotel. At 11:30 p.m., the police had to step in after about half an hour of shouting, banging on doors, and making a scene. I don't recommend staying here. For the money, it's disgusting.

The bed had clean sheets, which was a pleasant surprise here. The cracked toilet bowl had me watching after every flush to see whether the water would leak into the drain or the living room. Our room didn't have a key. Maybe the hotel's three stars meant something 20 years ago. It seems nobody looks after the place, though it's still somehow standing. If you're only coming in late to sleep and leaving early, and don't have kids or a wife with you, you might be able to put up with it.

The room was comfortably furnished, but the cold was awful, especially with the frost. It was cold in the room, and the rest of the hotel felt like a freezer. Breakfast costs 100 CZK per person, which I think is overpriced. If you don't order it, there's nowhere to get coffee before you leave.
