Penzion Šumavous

After visiting for 12 years, and seeing plenty change over time, not always for the better 🥴, we left really disappointed today. The new big swing is a nice addition, but I’m not sure where the park is headed. A voluntary entrance contribution would make more sense, or perhaps charge 40-50 CZK for feeding the animals or a little animal quiz with a small prize, like a picture, bookmark, or coloring sheet. There were a couple of sheep, two rabbits, two cats, parrots, and three wild boars. At 95 CZK per person, are you kidding? We didn’t even notice the sign saying payment was at the restaurant, hidden among all the other signs. First-time visitors may not know where the restaurant is, and honestly, we don’t know when it’s open either. It used to be a free contact mini zoo, or you could leave money or food for the animals in the bins or give it straight to the keepers. Visitors used to be able to feed them, but I understand not everyone brings fruit and vegetables 😔. One visit cost us 280 CZK, and 20-30 minutes really isn’t worth that, especially if you come more than once during your stay.

Even though it’s still off season, everything was ready for a lovely day with the kids and friends. We could watch the animals in their enclosure and buy pellets to feed them. There’s a playground with a sunken trampoline and a bouncy castle for the more adventurous 😉, plus balance bikes. You can get non-fried food or pizza, and there’s a lovely indoor play corner. The toilets are equipped for little ones too. The gentleman behind the bar was especially nice. He asked how satisfied we were and what we thought. Thank you for such a lovely day.

This place could be lovely if the owners looked after it, but we left disappointed and can’t recommend it. The covered area that’s meant to provide shelter from rain was a real mess, with nails and other unsuitable things lying around. Some of the children’s attractions didn’t work, and the staff, probably the maintenance person, behaved very rudely toward the children. There are animals, but they’re often kept in completely unsuitable conditions.

There’s an indoor play area, and the service is incredibly nice. Outside, there are animals roaming freely in the enclosure, and you can feed them. Kids have lots to do too, with a trampoline, bouncy castle, football goals, sandpit, and plenty of motorbikes, balance bikes, and go-karts. Definitely worth a visit. We’ll 100% be back.
