Paying in crowns works out much cheaper. The place is clean, with no cigarette ends in the streets, graffiti on the walls, or dog mess. Its huge parks are well kept, with lots of places to sit, shady trees, and lovely flowerbeds.

The architecture is a real treat to look at, and everything we tried to eat was worth recommending. We were met with friendly, courteous service everywhere. It's such a clean city that some German spa towns could take a lesson from it!

What a charming town. Compared with Karlovy Vary, I especially liked the calm and the small number of tourists, along with a national park unlike any I've seen before. I'd suggest spending two days here, one exploring town and the other mountain biking. On the way back, visit the castle before continuing to Karlovy Vary. You really should come! It's easy to get around Marienbad on foot, and both the parks and central Singing Fountain are within easy reach. I highly recommend it, especially for the unspoiled nature. The surrounding castles and fortresses within 20 km are well worth a visit, and Karlovy Vary is nearby too. Restaurant Hospodka is a must. Bohemian food is excellent, so try Bramboraki with Bohemian dumplings, and don't miss the mineral springs. One thing to keep in mind: I believe smoking is banned on the promenade in the town center because it's a cultural heritage site. The city police may come by.
