Landhotel & Café Im Gartenfeld

We felt right at home during our four days at the country hotel. The rooms were comfortable and clean, and the hostess was so kind that both the kids and we really liked her. We got a lovely warm welcome, and breakfast was freshly prepared with everything we could want. We’d happily come back.

We spent a lovely long weekend here with our best friends. It’s a great place to stay for trips to Trier, Luxembourg, and the Saar Loop, and there’s a popular pub just around the corner where we had beer and dinner. Remember to reserve a table there. We were welcomed very warmly, and the breakfast was tasty. On Sunday, the café had delicious cakes. There’s also a little lounge upstairs that’s nice for the evening. We didn’t come across any staff who were rude or incompetent.

Breakfast was a dream, with plenty of cold cuts, cheese, jams, yogurt, scrambled eggs, juices, and fresh fruit. Everything we could have wanted for a great start to the day. It was our second stay and we weren’t disappointed. The staff were friendly, capable, and always attentive to how we were doing. Our three dogs were welcomed too. As on our previous visit, the room was pleasant, clean, and quiet, and they even provided an extra-large water bowl. We’ll definitely be back :-):-)

We ended up having to find another hotel for the night, which was difficult and expensive because of the holiday. We’d booked this hotel online from abroad just one day before arriving, but the internet was so poor that we couldn’t view the confirmation after submitting the booking. It said check-in was only possible until 6 p.m., which we hadn’t seen, so we couldn’t let the hotel know we’d be late. When we got there at 8:30 p.m., nobody was available, and we hadn’t been given either a cell number to call or an address where we could collect the key. It wasn’t a big deal at first, but having no way to reach anyone left us stuck. We canceled and explained what had happened, including the poor internet, then politely asked if they’d waive the cancellation fee. The owner showed no understanding, refused harshly, threatened right away to contact a debt collection agency, and was very unfriendly: “If you can’t read, it’s your own fault...” and “Because of people like you...” To be fair, I should mention he allegedly waited for us until 8 p.m. Still, why wait two hours instead of just calling us? Nobody expects someone to be available at the hotel after 6 p.m., but a cell number or a place to pick up the key for a late arrival should be a given. Service orientation and friendliness look very different from this. All in all, it was an extremely frustrating experience, and I’d like to spare other potential guests the same trouble.
