The location is handy, with almost everything downtown within walking distance, and the staff were very pleasant. The apartment was clean and stylish. There isn’t much supplied, so bring things like shampoo. The kitchen is extremely small but very well equipped.

The receptionist was really nice and helpful, and the apartments have enough space, with kitchens stocked for simple meals. Shopping is right nearby, and the old town and cathedral are about a 10-minute walk away. Although we were in the city rather than the old town itself, there are a few restaurants, bakeries, and a shopping centre close by, while nights there are fairly quiet. We came during very hot weather, around 30-36 degrees Celsius. Without AC or even a fan, the rooms got almost unbearably hot. They heated up badly during the day even with the blinds and curtains closed. Opening the doors and windows at night barely helped, and by 8 at the latest the sun was shining straight in, so I had to get up and close the window and curtain. At night, people shouted outside the building. With the windows open, that kept us awake; with them closed, the heat was unbearable. We showered at least three times a day, and most of us slept only about 4-5 hours. It wasn’t relaxing at all, and I was honestly glad to be going home. I’m sure the place is great in cooler weather, and I wanted to give it more stars, but right now it was terrible. They need to install AC or at least put a fan in every room. I’ve seen reviews calling the neighborhood unsafe, which I don’t think is quite accurate. I did see a few “odd” characters, but as an adult I didn’t feel unsafe outside at night since none of them had bothered me. I’d have to admit, though, that if I had kids, I wouldn’t feel comfortable letting them wander around here alone after dark. I’d like to give one star because this stay was anything but pleasant, but we may simply have had really bad luck, and that wouldn’t be fair to the hotel. On top of everything else, we had no WIFI for two days because of “technical problems.” The error message on all our phones said the internet had been cut off because the bills weren’t paid on time.

The city-centre location was good, but my July 2020 trip to Aachen was stressful. The room was dirty: the toilet hadn’t been cleaned, there was hair in the bed from the previous guest, and the kitchen cloths were used and very dirty, as shown in the pictures. The WIFI connection didn’t work at all, which was my main concern because I needed it for work. When I asked the owner to fix the WIFI, he refused, saying it should work and that I should try the terrace, where the connection was “better.” I said I would leave, and he responded aggressively that I’d have to pay for extra nights if I cancelled. Only after I threatened to leave did I get a temporary modem in the room, and the WIFI was still poor. I also asked for a properly cleaned room, but that only happened one night before I left. For a stress-free trip, book somewhere else.

The rooms were brand new and really nice. Down on the building’s lowest level, Sapperlot le Bistro serves excellent food and coffee, with a high-quality menu and desserts. Takeout was fast too.
