Schlosshotel Münchhausen

We were impressed by the fireplace and elegant interior of this magnificent castle, built in 1588 and thoughtfully turned into a hotel. Rooms are in the castle itself as well as in charming places just beyond its walls. Guests can enjoy a spa and sauna, and the surrounding area has golf courses and scenic walking paths. Service was efficient, and the staff exceptionally courteous. Breakfast had a wide, appealing selection, the restaurant was superb, and the conference facilities were excellent.

The restored palace is spectacular, with impressive facilities, a beautiful pool and spa area with sauna and steam bath, spacious rooms, and a very well-kept garden and golf course. Some rooms are in the palace and others in a modern building next to it. Breakfast costs 38 euros, which is really steep, more like what you'd pay at a Four Seasons or Mandarin Oriental. At check-in, the older lady on staff was rather unfriendly, though the bell boy was very nice. Even with those drawbacks, it's a really good experience.

Our room was air-conditioned, perfectly prepared, and had an extremely comfortable bed. Mr. Keita gave us a warm welcome and made us feel at home. We also had a lovely time in the well-designed pool and sauna, especially my daughter. Dining at Hilmar Restaurant was a highlight: the cuisine was exquisite, and Vincent provided outstanding service. Together they made the meal unforgettable and added a lot to our stay.

The grounds are beautiful, and the golf course is conveniently close if you play. But we were disappointed with the garret room: cramped is a better description than comfortable, especially for the high price. Dining choices are both expensive and limited. Unless you use the spa or swimming pool, there's not much else to do. There is no tennis, kids' play area, or horse riding.
