We could leave the car parked and walk about ten minutes to the hiking trails, town center, supermarket, restaurants, and shops. The cottage is in a quiet spot in Altenau and has what you need, including a well-equipped kitchen for cooking. We also liked the cozy living room with its smart TV and the upstairs bedroom’s large bed and quality mattresses. Our contact with the landlord was great, and they were always available. Helpful neighbors even dug our car out of the snow with a snowblower. We highly recommend the cottage and will book it again.

Altenau has a supermarket, several restaurants, a bakery, a brewery, and even a thermal spa with a sauna. The cottage itself is modern, newly furnished, and very well equipped, with more than we needed for a comfortable stay. It’s in a quiet cul-de-sac, and the owner was friendly to deal with. A fantastic place in the Harz Mountains. Highly recommended.

Communication with the friendly landlord was easy and uncomplicated, which we appreciated. The apartment feels cozy despite its modern furnishings, and we were very comfortable there. It’s a great option for a relaxing vacation with a child and a dog, and we’d happily return.
