König Ludwig Designhotel

Really good.

I've stayed at the König Ludwig four times now, on trips to Switzerland and on the way home, and I'm always glad to come back. The owner pays close attention to guests and what they want, and the whole team deserves thanks. The hotel is lovely, with fresh, tasty breakfast and very good food. The staff are friendly and nice. Some rooms have saunas, steam saunas, or waterbeds, which make for a relaxing stay. It's also great value for money. Altötting, Germany's largest pilgrimage site, is well worth a visit. The restaurant staff were the one bright spot for me. The women there were friendly and attentive. I can't recommend the hotel overall. My first room was the König Ludwig room, and for the price it was a disgrace: musty, with a sagging box-spring bed and a street-facing window where a tour bus or truck is usually parked. After I complained, I got another room, but the metal ring on the tap stuck out razor-sharp in the shower and seemed dangerous. The toilet paper holder looked ready to fall off by late summer. There was a kettle for making coffee, but the coffee was in a leaky glass jar that seemed to have been left there for months. Disgusting. When I showed the jar to the owner, he said it didn't come from the hotel. Two days later, he told me, "You don't need that much coffee," which didn't surprise me. The hotel feels quite dated and advertises celebrities who stayed there decades ago. There were also lots of work crews and young people. Some stayed noisy in the beer garden late into the night, once until 12:30 a.m. There's another incident I won't describe because I have no witnesses or evidence.

The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly, and breakfast had an excellent selection at Hotel Plankl. That's where guests at the Hotel König Ludwig have breakfast. The König Ludwig room wasn't much to look at, but the bed was very comfortable. Hotel Plankl, Hotel König Ludwig, and Bavaria Lifestyle are all part of the same group.
