Landhotel Rappenhof

We spent nine days in the beautiful Zellertal valley and had a fantastic time. The Rappenhof sits peacefully between Bodenmais and Bad Kötzting, right below Kaitersberg mountain. Its flower-filled garden is lovely, and hiking in the Bavarian Forest starts practically at the door. There are also outings to the glassmaking village, Lohberg Wildlife Park, and Lake Arber. The rooms are simple, cozy, and clean, just right for a country hotel. Daily cleaning was dependable, dogs are welcome, and the hosts are so friendly that you quickly feel like part of the family. The grounds are a lovely place to relax. Meals were a real treat. Breakfast had something to put even a grumpy morning person in a good mood. Dinner was a three-course menu with a choice of three different main dishes, all delicious. The starter was always a little amuse-bouche rather than just soup, and dessert was hard to resist. Everything was beautifully presented, more like a four-star hotel than a country inn, and tasted fantastic. A warm family business with humor and care. We felt at home and will definitely come back.

The quiet, rural location makes this a handy base for activities in the area, and we felt comfortable and well looked after throughout. We got a warm welcome, and the staff were always cheerful and friendly. Our annex room, where we stayed with our dog, had enough space for our German Shepherd, though the bathroom could have been larger. The furnishing is functional, and Wi-Fi is free. The hotel is a little dated, but still worth visiting. We booked half-board. Breakfast was a generous buffet that was continually replenished. Dinner had three courses, soup, a choice of three main dishes, and dessert. No complaints about the food, the chef knows his stuff! 👍🏼

We first ate here about ten years ago and still remembered it fondly. This time we stayed three nights, and the place was perfect for unwinding. You can head out for a nearby hike after breakfast or settle down with a book in the big garden. Dinner is worth treating yourself to, and the restaurant alone makes the trip worthwhile. It's an older place, and the Wi-Fi doesn't work perfectly. Still, the rooms, meals, and service are all pleasant and friendly. Very peaceful and relaxing.
