Hotel Am Schloss Aurich Schlossresidenz

The location makes it easy to enjoy the pedestrian zone while still having a quiet place to stay. Our family suite at the castle residence was modern, stylish, simply furnished, and spotless. Breakfast service was warm and attentive again, too. This was our second stay, and last year was just as wonderful. We had the same room both times, but this time I wanted to focus on the residence itself. We feel completely at ease here and have already booked for Christmas. Thanks to the whole team, we’ll be back! I also gave Hotel Am Schloss a 5-star rating in December 2024.

The restaurant and breakfast room have a truly unusual atmosphere. The decor seems to bring together every color and pattern that clashes, including green LED ceiling lights. I’m red-green colorblind, so I didn’t even register some of the glaring mismatches very strongly. At breakfast, after a coach full of retirees had apparently eaten and left, the buffet seemed quite meager. Many things were available as just one slice or piece, if they were there at all, and refills were slow and inconsistent. Drinks meant tea or filter coffee from a moderately clean one-liter thermos. Eggs could be made on request if the person responsible was around, but scrambled eggs weren’t available. The food service was truly awful. Bar staff didn’t know basic cocktails and served strange concoctions. They couldn’t make a classic Daiquiri even on the second try. That’s not four-star standard. A quick look at the restaurant buffet as I left showed what looked like some truly awful frozen food. The residence is often advertised as a separate hotel, but it’s really an unmanned annex across from the main hotel at the castle, where reception is located. That’s fine, but useful to know. Its position at the edge of the old town is ideal. There aren’t enough free spaces for all hotel guests, so when they’re full, you’re left with paid parking nearby or the hotel lot for €9. The room itself was modern and had everything needed. The mattress was too soft for me, though that’s personal preference. It was odd to find a Nespresso machine with incompatible Dallmayr capsules.

Right at the start of the pedestrian zone, this is a great hotel. The staff are very friendly, the rooms are large and clean, and breakfast is generous.

I was completely satisfied, especially with the new annex: stylish, spacious rooms, excellent beds, and a nice modern bathroom, with everything you might need and more. The double rooms in the main building are highly recommended too, though the single rooms feel a little dated. The hotel is superbly placed near Aurich city center, and breakfast is beautifully laid out. You can even ask for an omelet.
