The hosts are usually nowhere to be seen except at breakfast, since everything seems to run on a self-service system. There’s a guest list by the door showing names and rooms, and you simply pick up your key. Breakfast costs extra. The place itself is clean and comfortable enough for a countryside stay. But it’s a long way from town, and there are hardly any buses. Even when I asked about public transport directly, they didn’t really explain how limited it was. Don’t stay here without your own car.

The breakfast buffet was generous, and the woman serving it was happy to help if we needed anything else. For €80 for a double room, this was good value. I don’t expect or need a luxury hotel at that price, and the negative reviews about the recently renovated rooms are hard for me to understand. We stayed one night in a newly renovated room. It was very clean, with a really comfortable bed and practical furnishings without unnecessary extras. Self check-in was simple. The entrance and upstairs hall may look a little off-putting at first, but renovation work is still underway and can’t all happen at once.

Mosquito repellent is worth packing. There’s a lot of water nearby, so plenty of the little pests come out at night. We had a great stay and will definitely book again. The hotel is centrally located for getting to Aurich, with plenty of things to do nearby. Renovation work is happening in stages throughout the building. Our room had a lovely, cozy color scheme, new comfortable beds, and a balcony where we could unwind in the evenings. It was very clean, as was the practical bathroom. Fresh towels were folded on the bed with gummy bears, and there were two complimentary bottles of mineral water. Wi-Fi was free too. The breakfast room was bright and comfortable, and the buffet had lots of choices.

The central location made it easy to get out for excursions and activities, and breakfast was a real highlight, with generous portions. The staff were friendly, and my room was decent and comfortable. Good value for money, and I’d come back.
