Landhaus zur Aue

Breakfast filled us up, though it wasn’t anything special. I would’ve liked a bit more fruit or cold cuts, but that’s just my opinion. The room was clean and comfortable, if a little small, with a mini fridge and kettle. It’s a lovely little hotel right on the Ilmenau River, close to everything. The spa park and pedestrian area are about five minutes away on foot, and the thermal baths about ten. We thought the price was fair, had a pleasant stay, and would come back.

My mother’s walker was already waiting outside for her this morning, which says a lot about how thoughtful the staff are. They were so attentive throughout our stay, and breakfast was wonderful. Even for just one guest, they’ll bake a roll or make scrambled eggs fresh. The rooms are rustic but spotless, and the location is especially convenient for anyone with mobility problems, with the town and spa park just a short stroll away. We’ve really enjoyed being here and are looking forward to coming back to Landhaus zur Aue. Sadly, we leave tomorrow.

We had booked rooms for our confirmation, but the event was postponed during the corona crisis. We tried to reschedule, or cancel, and were charged the full cancellation fees anyway. The country house wouldn’t discuss it with us and ignored our emails. It was a very disappointing response at a time when everyone should have been pulling together.

I’m sharing this for my mother, who stayed at the country house in April for a MEDIWELL mini-spa treatment and came away very happy. She particularly liked the masseuse and her skill. Treatments are all in the building and easy to reach by elevator. After a day out, the terrace, lounges, and little beach make nice places to unwind. The breakfast is generous, the beds are comfortable, and the owner and staff are helpful. The house sits picturesquely by the Ilmenau River, looking out toward the spa park, which has plenty to offer. Restaurants and cafés are close by and open even in the off-season. We’d happily return.
