Aktivhotel Alter Kaiser

A nice place to stay.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast did the job, though it wasn’t anything special. Still, the hotel felt short on comfort, atmosphere, and even basic modern amenities. The rooms work fine, but their dated feel reminded me of business trips to East Germany in the 1990s, which wasn’t what I wanted for a relaxing weekend. We were four couples meeting up in Bad Ems after a long time apart and setting off on a trip together. One person in our group booked the hotel with good intentions but little experience judging reviews. The listings did describe a basic place, though some portals sounded too optimistic and risked setting the wrong expectations. The “generous breakfast” was there, but that was about all there was to it. If you just need a simple place to sleep and don’t expect much, it may suit you. For guests with style and expectations, especially older guests, we wouldn’t choose it. We’d look elsewhere to enjoy Bad Ems.

After a tiring day on the Lahn Valley Cycle Path, we were welcomed warmly. The room was very quiet, and the small bathroom was adequate. Our bikes could be stored securely, with power outlets available if needed. There was also seating in the courtyard where we could relax together in the evening.

The basement bar was a nice extra, with seating that seemed popular, and breakfast was delicious with everything you might need. The couple running the hotel were lovely. My street-facing room caused me no problems. The rooms were clean and perfectly satisfactory, if not ultra-modern, and I had nothing to complain about. I’ll definitely be back.
