The bathroom needs renovating, and the grout struck us as unhygienic. The apartment also looked quite different from the online photos. Its dark decor and small window made the place feel gloomy, and the wardrobe wouldn't shut because its hangers were wider than the wardrobe. The TV didn't work either. The very friendly housekeeper confirmed it and offered to check on it, but we didn't bring it up again. Since this apartment cost more than the main building, we left dissatisfied.

Breakfast came right to the table, with cheese and fresh sausage from the butcher, plus homemade plum jam and eggs cooked how you like them. The apartment I booked was roomy and comfortable, with thoughtful little touches, including a small upstairs toilet so you don't need to go downstairs at night. The owners were very friendly and worked hard to make the stay pleasant. I'd also suggest having dinner at the guesthouse restaurant if you get the chance.

The food here is traditional Thuringian cooking, local and upscale, but still affordable. Breakfast is plentiful and delicious, and they take care of every wish as though you're family. I come here when I want quiet, comfort, and a slower pace. The stylish, cozy antique shop is in a place without hustle and bustle, and I don't think anywhere else in town can beat it.

My booking had apparently been "unfortunately overlooked" when I arrived, and the employee, who seemed to be the owner, told me so in a rather grumpy way. They did arrange somewhere else for me to stay, which is why I give one star. The Alte Ackerbürgerhof appears to enjoy celebrating itself, judging by the signage, but I don't think it adds anything to lovely, idyllic Bad Frankenhausen.
