Hotel Prinz Anton

The breakfast was a real highlight: a well-presented buffet with tasty food from around Europe, plus some hot choices. During the busy Christmas period, when the hotel was full, it was available from 7 to 11. Our room was in the annexe across the road, so we had to put on a coat to get breakfast, but that wasn’t a big issue. The outside is fairly plain on a residential street; inside, the rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable, though not large. Staff were friendly, spoke English, let us check in early, and happily arranged non-feather pillows for an allergy. Getting around was easy. The main shopping streets and nearest Underground station were about a five-minute walk away. The mainline station for the airport was around ten minutes on foot, then about a 15-minute ride, costing €2.70 each in December 2017. The Altstadt and nearby sights were about a 15-minute walk, though snow, ice, and Christmas crowds made it take longer for us. There were plenty of public transport options, and good German restaurants and bars within five minutes. A few things in the room needed attention. Some ceiling bulbs were dead, and the refrigerator wasn’t plugged in. Its cord couldn’t reach any visible socket; we managed to stretch it taut across the room door to plug it in, but that was only a short-term fix, and the fridge still didn’t work. Even with that, I’d recommend it for a city break in Düsseldorf.

Getting to the city centre on foot was easy, and the hotel is close to both the train station and the FlixBus stop. It’s also a handy base for taking buses to other parts of Europe. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the breakfast was delicious. A very comfortable, nice place to stay.

The bed was comfortable, and the room was clean and nice. The breakfast was good and there was plenty of it. The woman at the desk made us feel welcome right from the start.
