The welcome was lovely: we got a glass of sparkling wine and all the information we needed. Our room was spacious, with a balcony and drying rack, though the double bed was narrow and the mattress far too hard for us. The safe didn't work, but we didn't need it. Getting there involved quite a walk, with only an elevator up to the first floor from reception and two more flights of stairs after that. The meals were a highlight. Breakfast had plenty of cheese, cold cuts, cereals, fresh muesli, fruit, and eggs to boil yourself, and the five-course dinner was tasty. The hotel felt more clinical than recreational, though, and less luxurious than the brochures had led us to expect. The sauna didn't start heating until 5 p.m., so it wasn't hot until 6, which was disappointing. The special massage bed was out of order, and the hay treatment cost extra. We expected a more active weekend from an AktiVital-Hotel than just bed and breakfast or half board. In the end, we had to leave after the first night because we couldn't sleep on that hard mattress.

I came for hiking, nature, and sauna time, and the area around Bad Griesbach was a very pleasant surprise. There are several good golf courses and lots of hiking and biking trails. The hiking routes are especially well signposted, both on the trails and on the clear map I picked up at reception. Since the countryside is hilly, many spots have great views across the area toward the Bavarian Forest to the northeast. The hotel itself isn't very big, but it has the services I wanted: a good restaurant, a hot spring pool (Thermalbad), and a comfortable spa area with a Finnish sauna and an herbal one. During the football championship, there was also a nice outdoor space with tables, drinks, and a TV screen, a bit like a small "Biergarten". It's not right in the town centre, though the centre is very close. I can recommend it to people looking for the same sort of break, and I'm thinking of coming back.

I booked a room at a cheap internet rate and ended up with a full apartment. The hotel welcomes pets, too, and I could bring my dog for a 10 euro extra charge. We had a lovely stay, and the staff were really friendly. Nothing seemed like too much trouble for them.

The rooms are being renovated at the moment, and the staff were lovely. The pool is small but does the job, and the restaurant food was delicious. I'd be happy to come back.

The pool is a lovely warm 31C, and there are two saunas. It's a large hotel, with an excellent breakfast bar and good dinner.
