Kosta looked after us and was lovely to talk to, very helpful and interesting. We only spent a night in Regensburg and came here for a meal. The food was excellent, and the setting overlooking the river was just right. Wish we could’ve stayed longer.

Sampling the freshly brewed beer at the end of the visit was a great way to finish. They make four main types, with different alcohol levels, and our group enjoyed the tasting. At Spitalgarten brewery in Regensburg, we also got a close look at Bavarian brewing, from the water, malt, hops, and yeast to the standards used to keep the quality consistent. The guide explained everything clearly and with real enthusiasm, including the region’s history, how brewing began, and the traditional purity law. We also heard about the pressures small traditional breweries face in today’s competitive market. The brewery has been making beer for over 800 years, and hearing about those traditions gave us a much deeper appreciation of Bavarian beer culture. If you’re nearby and interested in brewing or want locally made beer, it’s well worth a visit.

The vegetarian “pate” selection was creative, unusual, and tasty, and the pretzel and beer were both excellent. It was a great place to grab a bite inside an 800-year-old brewery. Right by the Danube and just off the main path in the old town, too.

I’ve only been to the beer garden, so I can’t speak to the hotel. The dog-friendly setup is great: ask for water and they bring a fresh bowl. Service is friendly and quick, the beer is good, and the menu has several creative vegan choices made with care. I loved the chickpea and sweet potato salad. It’s close to downtown without feeling like a tourist trap. I’ll definitely come back when I’m in town.

The river view was beautiful, and eating here was such a pleasure. We stopped for a quick bite while seeing the town, and I hope I get the chance to return someday.
