The room felt like it was meant for one person, although we’d booked a double for two. It had two single beds, but one had no pillow, and there was only one set of towels. We went back to reception to ask the young man for a pillow. We skipped the shower, though, because its sliding door was broken. The mattress was uncomfortable, the furniture dated, and we couldn’t connect to the Wi-Fi. Laundry in six huge duffel bags was piled on both sides of the steps as we came in. Avoid this hotel.

I’ve stayed in hotels around the world and never felt moved to write a bad review before. This place was awful, especially for the price: over €60 a night for a double room, rising above €90 on holidays. The beds looked fine until I spotted blood stains and got bitten by bugs. There was a thick layer of dirt and things under the bed, a problem if you have dust allergies. The walls are paper thin, so mornings were noisy and restful sleep was out of the question. There’s no lift, which matters if you’re carrying heavy luggage. The reception was shut most of the time, including during posted opening hours. Aside from a TV, phone, furniture and toilet paper, there wasn’t much for guests. No kettle, cups or shampoo. Wi-Fi cost extra, with charges that seemed arbitrary: €5 for three days on two devices once, then €4 for two days on one device another time. The connection wasn’t good. The TV, power sockets and door handles were among the things that only partly worked or seemed neglected. I didn’t think the staff were all that bad until checkout day. Checkout was at 11, but instead of getting a call shortly beforehand, we started getting knocks at 9:30 to hurry us out. We left after the third knock. The reception was supposed to be open but nobody was there, so we handed the key to the cleaning lady, who had been passive-aggressively rushing us along. I wouldn’t recommend the Adler Hotel to my worst enemy.

The building may be historic, but our room was disappointing, and the service was horrible. The reception was usually empty even during its posted hours, and I didn’t get a room key until my second day. The TV didn’t work at all. The bed was so uncomfortable that I still had a crick in my neck more than a month later. Wi-Fi cost extra and came with a three-hour limit. They promised another hour of complimentary access each day, but failed to provide it on two of the three days. The internet barely worked anyway. The reception being closed so often was the real deal breaker, and I can’t recommend this hotel.

The rooms were clean and a decent size, though there’s no lift for heavy bags. Breakfast was the worst I’ve had at a hotel in a long time. They overcharge for Wi-Fi, and the connection is unstable. You have to log in through a website, and each payment only covers one device.

The room was nowhere near clean, and everything felt cramped. The rooms are packed so close together you can hear everything. I wouldn’t even call this a hotel, more like a house with rooms. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. If zero stars were an option, that’s what I’d give it.
