Hotel Am Wiesenhang - Garni

We had a lovely two-night stay at Hotel am Wiesenhang, and I’d highly recommend it. The reception was super friendly, service was perfect, and breakfast was great. I also felt comfortable and safe with the measures in place during the pandemic: masks around the hotel, gloves at the breakfast buffet, and distancing. Sauna access was booked in individual half-hour slots for no more than two people, so you could enjoy the wellness area quietly and feel safe with the time set aside just for you.

The owners are wonderful, but the place may take some getting used to for Americans. You need to be looking for a German spa stay, with its health-focused atmosphere and the sort of breakfast that goes with it, plus sauna, pool, mudpacks, massage, lymph drainage, and more. If that’s not what you want, a guesthouse or regular hotel may suit you better. It can feel a little spartan if you’re not into hiking, biking, or keeping active, and don’t count on a view. The town is tiny and charming, though there’s not much to do and dining choices are limited. Our biggest problem was the unreliable, difficult Internet. But if you’re able to unplug and get into the German spa experience, give it a try.

I ended up staying here unexpectedly after a bad reaction to a vaccine. It was a great place to spend the time resting in bed, and the staff were very nice.

A great, clean hotel with friendly staff, three different saunas, and a swimming pool.
