Dormio resort Eifeler Tor

A peaceful base for hiking in Eifel, with no cars around. It's great that dogs can stay in certain houses.

The location is lovely, but families with kids may find the parking frustrating. Although cars are officially only supposed to stop at the guest houses for loading and unloading before being moved to the large lot across the road, many guests leave theirs parked in front all day and night. There doesn't seem to be any enforcement.

The place looks appealing, but our stay felt more like moving into a poorly maintained property than having a relaxing holiday. The villas offered little privacy, and the balcony wood was chipping badly enough to give splinters. Bees were a constant bother, with no pest control. There were very few amenities, and even basics like soap were missing. The indoor pool was cold and smelled strongly of chlorine. The unisex shower and changing space had a confusing layout, and the hot water lasted about 2 minutes. In the villa, the stairs had a strange angle and felt unsafe. The couch was stained, the TV was very old, and the WiFi kept cutting out and making us log in again. The microwave and oven controls had faded, so they were hard to use. Parking was far from the villas, and parking in front wasn't allowed.

The houses are spacious enough for at least two families, and it was peaceful with a beautiful view. There's a large lake nearby, and the valley has a lovely castle that's well worth a visit. We also found great facilities and walking routes for reaching the village down in the valley. It seemed well suited to families with young children or teenagers. We arrived late and had to wait a little while for directions, but calling reception cleared things up. Having someone at the desk all the time would've been better, though that wasn't how they operated. The houses sit on a hill, so driving up and down can be challenging if you're not used to it, but it adds to the charm. We had an amazing time.
