The location was good, and reception was the best part. The hotel felt very dated, though, and the garage area was a mess. We were given keys to a room that clearly hadn't been cleaned after the previous guest. The bed and pillows were filthy, and dirty towels were still on the bathroom floor. When we finally found the receptionist, he said those were the best rooms. We moved to the next room along, which was at least clean. The lift looked like it was from the sixties, so I took the stairs.

The room was stuffy and hot, with no way to get air moving. It also wouldn't lock when you left; you had to lock yourself in, which felt like a BIG fire hazard. The carpeted elevator, walls and floor, had a strong 1970s feel. Reception shut at 8pm, though the staff member was friendly.

The staff were friendly, and the rooms had adequate equipment. The hotel is being renovated, which seems like a good idea. My main issue was the connecting door to the room next door, which let through a lot of noise. I wouldn't recommend rooms like that unless you want to share your life with whoever's next door. The pillows were uncomfortable, too.

We keep returning in spring and fall, and the place is wonderful even if it isn't fancy. The beds are comfortable, breakfast is great, and the front desk staff are outstanding and helpful. It's clean, and the location makes it easy to walk downtown or along the Nahe river.
