Residenz am Dom Boardinghouse Apartments

Ask for a courtyard-facing room if you can. The streets nearby are busy, and construction next door starts very early. This is part of a senior living complex, so please be considerate of the permanent residents. It’s not the place for a big, loud group. We found the rooms spacious, spotless, and accessible for people with disabilities, and the staff were welcoming and kind. The location is great, just minutes from the train, Don, and shops, with plenty of food and shopping close by. Our apartment had an oven, cooktop, basic pots, small appliances including a coffee pot, and dishes and silverware for four. There was a fridge with a little freezer, where we even made ice. The bathroom was roomy, and the shower had great water pressure. We also had a balcony with a table and chairs, plus a small dining set. No air conditioning, but the big windows and good airflow helped a lot.

We were glad to stay in a place that rents apartments in a residence for older people, and the central Cologne location was lovely. Our apartment had plenty of space, a balcony, comfortable beds, and a large bathroom. The kitchen was tiny but had what we needed. The pool was small and nice, and there was a hot tub and sauna. Residents had daily events, but we felt welcome to join in. Reception was open around the clock and the service was always polite. Everything was clean and felt new and modern for this price range. I’d read some very negative reviews and worried a bit, but honestly I’m puzzled. Maybe those people stayed in different accommodation under the same name, or just had bad luck.

For a longer stay, this is good value, especially compared with other options at this price. The accommodation is comfortable, with friendly service, and it’s very close to the dome and main train station. The rooms and furnishings are spacious, though a little dated.

The location is excellent, just a few metres from the Dom, and the front desk service was excellent too. The room is really an apartment and it’s big. Still, this isn’t actually a hotel, it’s more like a nursing home for older ladies. The room facilities are very old, and the beds aren’t comfortable. They need updating.
