Das Schlafwerk Köln-Messe

Even with the windows shut, we could hear the nearby autobahn, which was surprising since the windows looked new but seemed poor quality. The place was spotless and everything was new, but I was already looking forward to checking out. It sits in an industrial area with poor public transport to the city centre. From outside, it looks like a huge, barely marked office building, with an ugly office style rather than an industrial design. Inside felt cold and sterile, not minimal. We didn’t see a single person during check-in, and I would have felt really uncomfortable staying here alone. The rooms have a youth hostel feel, with almost nothing in the design to make them welcoming.

I was here for six days because of the Anuga exhibition, and the stay was very disappointing. There was no room service at all, no bed arrangement, and no towel changes. The room itself was clean, but the service was 0 out of 10. There was no iron or laundry service, and proper hotel facilities were lacking. Breakfast was extremely limited and honestly not good. I’d give less than one star if I could.

The room was clean and the bed was great. It’s a little out of the way, but that wasn’t a problem, especially if you’re driving.

For how expensive it is, this place is a disaster. There’s no room service, bed making, or towel changes. There weren’t any hangers, shampoo, a hairdryer, or even glasses for brushing your teeth.
