Hotel Am Fang

The staff were friendly and did try to help, which I appreciated, but I wouldn’t stay here again without major improvements. The room was bare and basic, and a bottle of water doesn’t make the star rating feel justified. The bathroom seemed stuck in the 1980s, with visible mold and a badly put-together shower, while parts of the bed frames were torn and made everything look worn. Even at half the price, it wouldn’t have felt like fair value. In my view, this isn’t a three-star hotel, and two stars would be more fitting at best. Anyone booking based on the rating will probably be disappointed. Breakfast was average, nothing special.

The staff were all nice, professional, and accommodating. We enjoyed the pool and the live music night at the bar, and there’s free parking all around. The hotel is dated, but it wears its age gracefully. Our rooms were large, with good-sized bathrooms and pleasant balconies with seating. The bedding and provided amenities were good, though I’d suggest adding coffee and tea makers in the rooms. The Wi-Fi was weak at times. Our stay included breakfast and dinner: the breakfast buffet was good, while the dinner selection was limited but plentiful and changed daily. We didn’t use the lunch snacks or afternoon coffee and pastries. Free alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks were available all day at the main dining bar. We had a good time.

The restaurant gets pretty noisy with so many people, but earplugs took care of that little downside. We’ll come back. For the same weekend, we saved 800,00, and got clean rooms, friendly staff, and good food in a slightly old-fashioned setting. I’d been unsure because the hotel was so cheap, but decided to give it a chance. When we arrived, the check-in line felt like mass tourism and made me want to leave. Then the man at reception was incredibly friendly. I’ve stayed in expensive four-star hotels for work where I was treated like dirt, and that wasn’t the case here. The rooms and sheets were clean, with no sign of small or large crawling creatures. The colours aren’t modern, and the sink is functional rather than 2024 design. But the shower was a pleasant surprise: plenty of water, at a proper temperature. There’s no thermostatic tap, so if you accidentally bump it, the water can go a bit hot or cold. The one-setting Grohe spray head worked as it should and wasn’t broken. I wondered how they could make money at this price with as much food as you want, but dinner and breakfast were both good. The room was large and had a balcony, but there are no coffee or tea facilities or mini fridge in the room. The all-inclusive breakfast and dinner were nothing special. There’s no toaster for making toast, and the coffee was bad. If you want somewhere quiet, this is the place, but don’t expect much. The only facility I enjoyed was the indoor pool.
