Hotel Ochsen

The owners were very accommodating, and the apartment was very clean, with comfortable beds. It’s a small two-bedroom place, close to downtown. The kitchen is limited on counter space but works well enough for breakfast and lunch. One drawback: there are no doors on the bedrooms.

The saunas and pool were fantastic, and the on-site restaurant was a real highlight. Both the food and service exceeded my expectations. I stayed for 10 days, and the rooms were excellent, though I missed having a microwave. Staff were professional, courteous, friendly, and timely. The cleaners can be a bit loud in the morning if you’re trying to sleep in, though I suppose that’s common at hotels. The internet sometimes didn’t work in my room, and I had to go into the hallway or near the elevators to connect. The hotel couldn’t do anything about it, so most days I used my phone data and hotspot. That was the only thing I disliked, and it’s why I rated Ochsen four stars. It’s very well situated and easy to get around from if you want to explore the Black Forest. I highly recommend Hotel Ochsen as a wonderful place to relax and chill out, on your own or with others. After a long time away, I went back to Hotel Ochsen, known for its Black Forest cake, Schwarzwälder Kuchen. It was delicious as always, with a generous portion, and the coffee was very good too. The place is beautiful, the service friendly, and we had a wonderful time.

The restaurant’s roast beef with onions used to come with a generous mixed salad, including potato salad, but they’ve stopped serving it that way. Something about how the restaurant operates seems to have changed. The soup wasn’t convincing at all. The Black Forest Cherry Cake was the one bright spot, and it brought back memories of better times.
