We were visiting from Texas and don’t speak German, but Daniela at the front desk made things much easier. She gave us directions, found toys and paper for my kids to draw with, and helped me figure out where to take my son when he got sick. As a mom in another country, I really appreciated how well she understood my situation. We were in room 116, and I wish every hotel had someone as kind and helpful as her. Anete was the first person I met. We used my translation app to get past the language barrier, and she was very sweet whenever I needed anything. When my son got sick in the night, she changed his sheets. She also switched my laundry so we weren’t stuck at the hotel waiting. Laundry for four takes a lot of time, and the machines in Europe are small if you’re used to American ones. Roland was helpful too. He let me know when the laundry was done, so I didn’t have to keep watch at the office with two little kids. Everything was within walking distance, including sights, grocery stores, parks, and lots of restaurants. My favorite was Kidano, an Asian restaurant. I eat Thai food often, and theirs was better than the Thai food at restaurants in America.

The setting is lovely, right in the city center, and the buffet breakfast was far above average. The rooms are small but clean, the service is good, and the rest of the staff were very nice and friendly. Bad Mergentheim is a place for hiking, relaxing, wine tasting, and the like, and this hotel is a good base for a visit. Our weekend began badly, though. We arrived around 11 on Saturday hoping just to leave our bags. The receptionist said check-in was only from 2 and pointed to a corner of the next room where we could put them. When I noted it wasn’t locked and any hotel guest could get to it, she told us to leave them in the car. She then asked where we’d parked. We pointed to the hotel guest parking, and she told us to move our car away from the first spot, even though we were actually in the second one. It was a poor first impression. Oddly, that same person was nice when we paid at the end of our stay. If that employee had some serious customer relations training, I’d even recommend the hotel.

A pleasant three-star hotel in Bad Mergentheim’s old town. The single room had a bigger bed than I expected, and breakfast was good.

The rooms are old, but have their charm. The TV is pretty small, though the internet is good. The staff are very friendly, and breakfast is outstanding for the price.
