Weingut Sonnenberg

The place itself is great, but our contact with the manager was very unfriendly. He seemed annoyed when my wife went to the guesthouse manager’s office at 5 minutes before the official opening time of 10. The next morning I waited until 10.30hrs before going in with a “Good day!” in my best German, as I’m Dutch. I asked about a wine tasting and buying wine, but was told it was only possible for a minimum of 10 people. Our TV was showing a black screen, possibly because of something I did, but he stubbornly refused to help. After I left, he locked the door even though his office was meant to be open until 12 o’clock. Earlier, we’d reserved for four nights, months in advance, then found out the first night our apartment had been given to other guests. They offered us a larger apartment at the same price, which was a nice gesture. We’d also said we couldn’t arrive before 13.00 hrs and were assured a later arrival was fine, since they’d still be cleaning up after the festival the day before. So it was a nasty surprise when the manager acted insulted that we arrived hours after 13.00hrs. When my wife visited the guesthouse manager the next morning, she was told we could stay in the same apartment after all. Maybe he was still worn out from the big “rock and wine” festival on saturday, but the interaction felt very unfriendly.

The apartment was spacious and the beds were comfortable, and we had a wonderful stay at Weingut Sonnenberg in Bad Neuenahr. We also thought the wines were incredibly delicious. Definitely try them while you’re exploring the Ahr region.

It was spotless and tidy, and one of the best small camper campgrounds I’ve ever visited. A great pick for wine lovers. I recommend it!

The owner and his wine courses make this winery special, even with the amazing wine itself. There’s an incredible amount of know-how, shared in an engaging and entertaining way. Loved it, thanks!
