Mercure Hotel Bad Oeynhausen City

A really good place, with friendly staff, good breakfast, and good rooms.

Breakfast was the only good part of this hotel. The room needs major renovation: the white leather chair had a stain that might have been blood, which was awful. The shower doors were broken, wouldn't close, and nearly came off. There's a balcony shared by all the rooms, so other guests can get to your window.

The location makes getting around easy. The train station is a block away, and shops, small boutiques, restaurants, and the Spa are all within walking distance. We felt safe at the hotel, although a few people near the old, disused bus station looked a bit sketchy. There are taxis, but no car rental or laundry service in town. This was our fourth stay at Mercure Hotel in Bad Oeynhausen, and we've always been happy with the room and service. We travel from the USA every few years to see family, and we've also attended two celebrations at this hotel. The staff across reception, housekeeping, the bar, restaurant, and breakfast have always been attentive. This year they recognized us and greeted us happily when we arrived, which was especially nice. No complaints. The breakfast buffet is well worth getting, with loads of coffee, tea, juice, breads, cheeses, meats, and cereals. Breakfast staff are friendly and attentive, and the tables and chairs are comfortable. Our renovated room was comfortable, with a very good bed and linens. We requested one of the newly renovated rooms with air conditioning, and it was great during July's unusually hot weather. The room faced the back, so it was very quiet. We heard no traffic, trains, or neighbors, even on a busy weekend with young wedding guests around. We can't wait to come back.

We were furious with the staff and don't recommend staying here. We booked directly through the hotel's website six months ahead and reserved a baby cot. When we arrived, staff seemed surprised and questioned whether we'd booked one. We showed them our reservation, but they said both of their two cots had been taken the day before and they couldn't provide one. The woman speaking to us was incredibly rude and showed no sympathy. She just told us to put the baby in our bed and offered no other help. For a hotel of this size, part of a large chain in a popular holiday area, that behavior was inexcusable. It wasn't family-friendly at all.
