The menu barely offered vegetarian choices, and the risotto serving was laughably small for the price. After a full day of walking, we were hoping for a filling meal, but the hotel restaurant was a huge letdown. The next evening we went to Tilia and paid the same, but got generous portions, outstanding food, and a dining room that felt current. Save your money and skip this place. There are much better options in the area.

Some of the staff were very friendly, but we felt uncomfortable during our stay and never fully at ease. Things were repeatedly described as “booked” or out of service, or had been very falsely advertised. For what you get, the price feels like a con. This definitely isn’t a 4-star hotel for service or amenities. The staff could really use a course in running an average hotel. A 4-star place should have trained personnel who understand tourists.

The rooms were clean, and breakfast was decent. The spa was great, though it seems to close on Sundays, so watch out. The historic elevator is right opposite, a lovely spot to enjoy golden hour with a nice beverage 🥂

It’s a shame that the restaurant staff member’s racism completely dampened my whole experience here. They showed contempt toward someone who has trouble with the German language. With travel being so global and international, and a strong reputation needed worldwide, my rating is one star. Even excellent reception service and quality rooms wouldn’t justify five stars if they employ someone who behaves this way. Future international travellers should avoid this establishment, unless the staff member has already been reprimanded or fired.

We first stumbled across the Christmas night ballroom dance because we were staying nearby, and had such a lovely time that we’ll go again next Christmas. The ballroom is beautiful, with a really nice floor, and the music was good. Update: we’ve been coming every year for the dance, except during covid.
