Getting unlimited access to the baths as part of the hotel stay is something we love. Breakfast is pretty good for Germany, with plenty of fruit, cereal, bread, and cold cuts, plus a decent coffee machine. We weren't keen on the bathroom mirror, which is actually a window into the room. If the room light is on, someone in the bathroom can see into the room. If the room is dark and the bathroom light is on, you can see exactly what's happening in the bathroom. Maybe that's fine for a couple, but we had a suite with three bedrooms. Not everyone wants to be watched on the toilet. This was my sixth visit to the Toskana Therme in 16 years, and my first in mid July. There's no AC, so keep in mind if you're very sensitive to heat. We especially enjoy the big outdoor chessboard and the cafe by the baths. It's lovely to get out of the baths and have a double scoop in a waffle cone.

We had a good time and everything seemed nice. A couple of days later, though, my wife found out she'd caught Shingles in the sauna. Be sure to wash extra carefully after using it.

The spa, pools, and wellness facilities were great, and we had a really enjoyable time there. The water is very salty, so swimming in it isn't easy. The sauna has a nude area, which is common in Germany, but tourists who haven't been warned might be surprised. The rooms are very bare, with only the essentials, no carpets, and quite worn furniture. The bathroom is tiny, and the shower seems suited only to very small bodies. The TV has German channels only. Breakfast was disappointing: the only hot dish was scrambled eggs cooked until they were rubbery. Eggs, ham, bacon, or pancakes were available only as paid extras. The lobby bar was a nice place to spend a quiet evening with a drink or two.

The Therme is at a higher standard for quality and innovation than the hotel. The room had no air conditioning or even a fan, and there were no double beds, just two singles pushed together with a thick wooden join in the middle. Breakfast was fine, nothing special. The staff were unfriendly except at reception, and the internet connection was very poor. I'll definitely come back for the Therme, but I'll find somewhere else to stay overnight.
