Hof von Oldenburg

I’ve been coming to this restaurant for ten years for good food and drinks, and the quality has stayed consistent. The staff are always cheerful and put up with my silly jokes. In warm weather, it’s lovely to sit outside. One small deduction: the bells ring at 6:00 PM, and they’re nearly loud enough to damage your hearing, grins. It doesn’t spoil the mood, though. I’ll happily come again and sit outside at 6:10 PM, when the bells have stopped.

The food was excellent, and we often ate outside with views of the city and lake. We stayed for three lovely days at this centrally located place. Our room was clean and lovely, and breakfast had plenty of choice. Zarah deserves a special mention for serving us with wit and charm. The rest of the staff were friendly and competent too. We had dinner on the terrace in lovely weather, watching the weekly market go by. The food was delicious, and our server was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant has good cooking and a newly redesigned dining room. We visited Hof von Oldenburg yesterday and had a very nice room, newly furnished and nicely equipped, with a wonderful view of the market square. Everything was tip-top.

Maybe we came on the wrong day, since everyone else seems to recommend this place, but for me the meal was a disaster. My wife’s €16 zander with cabbage came with three pieces of fish, though the cabbage was cold. My €21.79 zander with asparagus had just one piece, maybe 100 grams, which felt like a rip-off. The cream schnitzel came with only three croquettes and packet cream sauce. For two adults and two children, the bill was €90, including four starters, but also Manni.... One star from me.
