Parkhotel

Breakfast was the biggest disappointment for us. They say it runs from 8 to 10, so I'd expect things to be ready at 8, but nothing was. A nice young man arrived at 8:10 carrying bags of bread, at least it was fresh, then tipped them into crumb-filled baskets right at the buffet instead of in the kitchen. He was still putting the buffet together after that. There weren't even normal-sized bowls for cereal, and a small beetle was crawling around by the tea, coffee, and sugar. The food feels stuck in the past. The wall behind the display was stained and dirty, and the shelf above it was dusty and full of junk. Don't expect soya or other non-dairy milk. The balcony off the dining room is lovely, but it was covered in bird droppings, dead plants, and spider webs, so we couldn't use it. It clearly hadn't been cleaned in ages. I also really dislike the cheap-looking waste bins on the tables, especially when they don't even match. The sand for the boiled eggs looked like it had been there since the beginning of time. The hotel itself is old and needs renovating. It felt understaffed, with just one person running everything. We booked three double rooms, but my room had only one large towel. It gave me the impression the owners don't care anymore.

The bed was comfortable, and we could come and go as needed. We were only there for a quick trip, but the place felt like it had seen better days. That was about all there was to it.

The place feels dated and more like apartments than a hotel. Our room's TV picked up only three channels, and the reception staff's German was very poor. Breakfast was included in our booking, but it only starts at 8 a.m., and that wasn't mentioned when we booked. When we asked on the first day, they wouldn't let us cancel the breakfast charge. They were very inflexible about it.

We went to another hotel in the end. We weren't going to wait out in the cold for the gentleman who seemed to think he ran the best and only hotel around. There are much better places for the same money or less if you look a little further. What a shame. It was December 26, minus 4 degrees, and we were a family with a five-year-old, standing outside with our suitcases and nowhere to go. We'd been traveling and arrived at 10 p.m. He said check-in was after 2 p.m., but refused to open the door because it was late, even after we explained about the child and our situation. He said there was nothing he could do. In our frustration, my wife swore at me, but he thought she was swearing at him. He then threatened us, said we'd have to pay for what we'd said, and demanded extra money to check us in. We refused. He also said he'd recorded the call, which he hadn't told us at the start. As soon as we pointed out that what he was doing was illegal, his attitude changed and he told us to come check in.
