Ferienwohnung am Hirschkopf

The sunset from the garden is worth the uphill walk back from the town center. The apartment sits high in Baiersbronn, beside the forest, with MTB and hiking routes starting close by. It’s very well equipped, and the view is unforgettable. This was our second visit, and we’ll be back.

We stayed in December 2023, and it wasn’t a great fit for a young family. There are lots of steps, no assigned parking, and nowhere safe in the bedroom to set up a cot. The automatic hallway light also made it hard for our baby to sleep. We had trouble reaching the owners during the stay. Cleanliness was inconsistent: there was a used coffee pot, dust under the bed, and the dishwasher needed a cleaning cycle when we arrived. There was limited space for black rubbish too. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable and the views over the village were lovely.

The view from the terrace and every window was beautiful, and the hilltop setting puts the forest just a two-minute walk away, which is great for hiking. Inside, the newly renovated apartment feels cozy, with practical, comfortable furniture. We especially liked the sofa bed. The landlord was friendly and shared plenty of local tips. We’d happily stay again on another trip.

We were happy with the quiet apartment itself. It was modern, clean and attractive, with a comfortable bed, working Wi-Fi and a small but good shower. The terrace looks over the valley, and hiking trails begin right outside. Street parking was available. The hillside views over Baiersbronn and the forest are lovely. Rain changed our plans. Two days before we arrived, the owners reassured us about the weather, but then we couldn’t reach them by email or phone because of work commitments. A last-minute cancellation or rebooking wasn’t possible. After walking around in ponchos for half the first day, we left early because hiking in the rain wasn’t enjoyable and storms were forecast. The one hike we managed was very nice, and we made the most of the day. It rained constantly on our departure day and the next day, so we didn’t regret giving up the money. We paid, left everything tidy, and never heard from the owners again. We wouldn’t book so far ahead next time unless there were a refundable option, to avoid trouble for either side. The area is beautiful, and the people we met were very nice. We’ll certainly return to the Black Forest.
