Mammut Apartments

A really nice stay, and the service was great!

We picked the Mammoth Apartments in Balve for a family visit to the Sauerland region, based on the good reviews, and booked the "Woolly Mammoth" in the Old Courthouse. The beds were quite comfortable, but the light fabrics at the windows didn’t darken the bedrooms properly. A light stayed on all night in the building opposite, another holiday apartment from the same provider, and shone straight into our window. Our daughter woke earlier than usual because of the light and the cold rooms. At first, the apartment seemed okay, but over our three-day stay we found that it was missing some basic comforts. It felt as if it wasn’t rented out often. There was dust and cobwebs, an open coffee filter pack, and no scissors or toaster, even though a toaster appeared in the booking photos. Some cupboards wouldn’t close properly, the duvets were thin for the time of year, and there were no extra blankets to make the living room cosy. Even with the heating on and portable heaters running, the walls were cold, so we soon headed out to see our relatives in Balve. I borrowed towels from them too, since none were provided. The stairwell and window were dirty, and there were a few spiders in the bathroom. The new toilet was a plus, as was the building’s old-fashioned charm and potential. Getting the key was a bit chaotic because it wasn’t clear which apartment had been reserved, though that shouldn’t count against the stay. Mr. Justin was friendly and helpful, carrying luggage with my husband so I could look after our daughter. She even got a pack of cookies, and we were glad to find a bottle of sparkling wine in the fridge. We were only there to sleep and have breakfast, so it was okay for that. But we won’t return to the "woolly mammoth". Maybe we’ll try one of the other apartments sometime, as they look more charming online.

When flooding left my colleague’s and my apartment uninhabitable, we were there with our two dogs and needed somewhere to stay. Mr. Allhof and Mr. Justin readily offered us a spacious new house for our holiday. They were incredibly friendly, helpful, and accommodating, and always available to guests. Service that’s hard to beat. Absolutely fantastic.

Mr. Justin was very kind, and both rooms we stayed in were really lovely, neat, and clean. We had one room, then another two days later. I’ll definitely come back in winter. Thank you!
