The staff weren’t good, and the other people weren’t either.

The hosts were welcoming and easy to reach, and communication with them was excellent. The house itself was beautiful, cozy, and very clean, with lovely furnishings and everything we needed, from a modern kitchen to the well-equipped rooms. We had a wonderful time in Bamberg. The location in the old town was ideal, and we could easily get to sights like the Old Town Hall and the Cathedral and wander through the picturesque alleyways.

The apartment was clean, and its location at the foot of the cathedral made a good base for seeing all parts of Bamberg. The kitchen is small but has a Senseo coffee machine and pods, a kettle, toaster, mini-oven, microwave, refrigerator, stovetop, cups, and cutlery. Check-in was easy with the key box code. I think it would be more comfortable for a couple or a family with children, but it didn’t work well for four adults. We stayed in the Renate holiday apartment on the second floor. It’s one large room, a bathroom, and a kitchen by the entrance. The photos don’t show how many steps divide the sleeping area. For someone with limited vision, the unmarked steps made getting around painful and frightening. The ground-floor entrance and stairs up to the apartment were narrow, winding, and quite adventurous. Two of us had the extremely hard double bed, while the other two used the sofa bed. It squeaked loudly with every movement, waking everyone since we were all in the same room. The sofa was too small and worn for two adults, and its position meant you couldn’t sit on the bed from either side. You could only get in from the front, which meant crawling. We also didn’t sleep the first night because the record store on the corner played loud bass music until 4 am on both Friday and Saturday nights. Even with the windows closed, the sound came through because the store is so close.

Being right in the middle of Bamberg's old town means there's plenty going on, and the area can be a little noisy. Driving around and finding a place to park is tricky too. Those were the reasons I held back a star, not the apartment itself. We stayed with several other groups and found everything clean, with all the essentials. The apartments are really nice, and the nearby house called "Sandhäusla" is great too, as long as you don't mind narrow, steep stairs. We'd happily return.
