ibis Bamberg Altstadt

Check-in is automated, so you don’t meet any staff. The room was okay, but the bathroom was tiny.

We stayed during the Christmas Market, and the hotel was close to the festivities. Abdullah at the concierge desk was professional, personable, and helpful. Having underground parking was convenient, too. It cost 20 euros, but that saved us from searching elsewhere or hauling our suitcases a long way. The room and bathroom were very clean, and the beds and pillows were comfortable. The temperature was pleasant, and it was mostly quiet. In the middle of the night, some people were smoking and talking loudly outside, though that wasn’t the hotel’s fault. We found a delicious, fresh, nutritious breakfast nearby at Cafe Luitpold. If we return to Bamberg, we’d consider staying here again.

This is the only modern, budget hotel in the old town. For a better view, ask for a street-facing room, and rooms ending in 15 or 19 are larger. The shower wasn’t among the best I’ve seen at Ibis, whose showers are generally excellent. Its floor is level with the bathroom, so don’t splash around too enthusiastically. The grey shower curtain also blocks the light, which was a first for me.

The location is a big plus, close to Bamberg’s most popular tourist sights. Breakfast was good, the rooms were clean, and the place was quiet and warm. Parking costs a few extra euros, but not much. The staff were especially nice and kind, with excellent service. I recommend it.
