Even on a busy visit, the staff were friendly and attentive, and the restrooms were modern and clean. The Franconian food is delicious, and there’s always at least one vegetarian dish on the menu. That’s unusual for traditional restaurants.

The Sunday lunch special was delicious, with tender meat, well-seasoned sauces, and generous portions. Service was quick and friendly, and the prices were fair. The renovated dining rooms are lovely, but the very cold lighting makes them feel uninviting. Maybe swapping the old energy-saving bulbs for warm-toned LEDs would bring this up to five stars.

The home-style cooking is excellent, and the portions are more than enough. Service deserves six stars. We enjoy going to Schimmel, whether eating on the street or calling ahead to order and pick up the food. The New Year's Eve menu was very good and reasonably priced too. It was a shame there wasn't one in 2017, so we were hoping for 2018.

You can have a relaxing beer in the garden during summer, and the atmosphere feels just right. This country inn doesn’t try to be a typical Franconian restaurant, which comes through in the food. The food quality can vary depending on how busy it is, since there’s only one server and one cook. Still, it’s definitely worth a visit.
