Boootshaus Beeskow – Am Spreeufer

We came back to Boootshaus and booked an ensuite twin room this time, which made a huge difference. No more crossing the hall in the middle of the night or dealing with showers that shut off after 15 seconds. The room was clean, spacious, modern and, most of all, comfortable, with a thoroughly up-to-date bathroom. The riverside setting is peaceful and picturesque, even with the frogs singing loudly all night on our first visit. It was oddly soothing. The place feels fresh and welcoming, and the rooms have mosquito screens. The staff are young, cheerful and helpful. Rooms can get pretty warm in hot weather. Prices are very competitive. A room without a private bathroom costs less and gives you a bit more of a youth-hostel experience. There's a good basic buffet breakfast with fresh ingredients for an extra charge. You can also get drinks, hot snacks and good-quality ice cream from reception at other times. Beeskow is a handsome little town with a castle. There's a mooring and fishing jetty, plus pedalo hire and swimming in the wide, calm river. It's a pleasant base for exploring the hidden treasures of Spreewald, including rivers, lakes, forests, historic old towns and villages, and excellent spas, by car or bike. The region is a delight that's only just starting to attract tourists. Get there before the rush.

The river is nearby, almost right under the windows, and we enjoyed swimming there on hot days. The host, Ilona, was very nice and helpful, though she speaks only German. The rooms aren't very big, and ours had four beds, but it was cozy enough. The shared room, toilets and showers were cleaned daily. WiFi barely worked, so I mostly used mobile data.
