The apartment was very clean, and the towels and bed linen had a lovely fresh, homey smell. We were warmly welcomed, and everything was ready when we arrived. The bathroom and guest toilet were basic but clean. There’s a bedroom, living room, kitchen, and a balcony running along the bedroom and living room, with a handy drying rack. The living room is small but adequate and has a TV; the bedroom is spacious, with plenty of room for suitcases. A sofa bed had been made up for us in the living room. The drive up to this mountain-top accommodation is very steep. Down in the village there’s everything you need, including a laundromat, swimming pool and thermal baths, other activities, good restaurants, and even a bowling alley. There’s parking a little above the apartments and houses, but we haven’t found anywhere to store our bicycles. The kitchen is dated and has no oven, though it does have a microwave, kettle, coffee maker, chopping boards, and other basics. It’s cramped, dark, and has no window, so we had to keep the lights on most of the day. One drawback is that when the neighbors cook with their extractor fan on, the smell drifts into our apartment and kitchen. I suspect the exhaust ducts are shared. The shower pressure is weak, so showering takes patience. The Bavarian-style wardrobe in the spacious bedroom smelled a little musty, which I understand is common with this kind of wardrobe, so I didn’t put my clothes in it. The furnishings could be newer, more modern, and brighter. The dark kitchen may be part of why we don’t feel completely at home here. The apartment is okay, but it didn’t quite feel like home to us. The garbage room, a little uphill, is disorganized, smells strongly of trash, and isn’t sorted at all.

It’s just a five-minute walk to Berchtesgaden’s old town. The grounds have lovely holiday apartments and are managed by very friendly people. The castle itself is a beautiful old Baroque building.

The view is gorgeous, and the rooms are comfortable, clean, and equipped just right. The host is especially welcoming and attentive to what guests need. This place leaves such a memorable impression that you’ll want to return again and again. I’m sure many people reading this won’t make it their last visit.

We’ve been staying here for years and have always been very happy. Inge is friendly and so helpful. We keep wanting to return, and we wouldn’t choose anywhere else.
