The balcony had a beautiful view, and my room was spotless. The staff were so welcoming that, when I mentioned an early departure, they even offered to bring breakfast to my room. Hotel Krone is distinctive and clearly well looked after. The residential street is charming, and getting up the hill is worth the walk. I only wish I could've stayed longer, and would gladly return.

Breakfast on the terrace is a must for the garden and huge mountain views. From our balcony, the view over the historic town was incredible too. We were warmly greeted, and the rooms were roomy enough for two people and several suitcases. In all our travels in the Alps, this was the most spacious place we stayed. Hotel Krone was a great choice in Berchtesgaden, and we'd absolutely come back.

The experience was thoroughly unpleasant. There was a strong cigarette smell when we arrived, and the room was small, with a very cramped shower and old-fashioned decor. There were no individual bedside lights or coffee facilities in the room. We didn't try the jacuzzi, but it costs extra. Also, the wine bottle by the room entrance needs a price label so guests know it isn't a welcome gift.

The room's equipment was excellent, and it had recently been renovated for extra comfort. The breakfast was fairly simple compared with nearby places, though you can ask separately for specialty coffees and different egg options. The view of the valley's highest peak is astonishing. I'd recommend booking a balcony room facing the mountains, a special sight to wake up to or watch the stars from in the evening. With the view and proximity to the village, I'd stay again.
