Albergo Hotel Berlin

The bedroom was clean and kept that way every day, and there’s a nice Italian restaurant next door where I had dinner four times. The hotel is okay and close to the airport, though it’s noisy, with a dual carriageway on one side and a train station on the other. Breakfast was disappointing when I tried it once. There was hardly any choice, especially for healthier food. The WiFi also cut out at random and wouldn’t come back, which was painful when I needed to work on my computer for hours. The staff kindly let me use an office room downstairs, but I still would have preferred to work quietly in my own room.

The receptionists were friendly and gave me a Berlin city map, explaining how to get to the city centre. The hotel is close enough to the airport to walk, and there’s also a shuttle every thirty minutes if that fits your flight schedule. For an early flight, you can ask the receptionist for a wake-up call. I love staying here.

A pleasant little hotel at a reasonable price, handy for Terminal 5 S-Bahn station. It’s especially quiet now that Terminal 5 has closed. I had an early flight and skipped breakfast, but it was thoughtful to find coffee at reception even at 0515.

The noise was constant: trains on the rails behind the rooms every 20 minutes, heavy traffic on the other side, and a restaurant downstairs that was loud from 06:00 until 00:30. Restaurant staff left open the door leading to their office and rooms. The old windows did little to block any of it, so it felt like they were always open. Chickens and a rooster also started waking me at 5:30 every morning. The beds were uncomfortable, with very old mattresses, and I woke with back pain each morning. The bathroom always smelled bad. Breakfast was very expensive, and nobody told me at check-in that it wasn’t included. They invited me to breakfast in the morning, so I thought it was part of the price, then charged me for each one. The staff, including the receptionist, were very unfriendly. This was the worst hotel I’ve visited in 15 years of travel. Even one star feels like too much.
