AMC Apartments - Ku'damm

I paid for four nights but left after two because I felt threatened and unsafe. Check-in was already a mess, and the complex felt very old, which made me wonder what system they use to monitor guests and smoke detectors. While I was out at ITB for business meetings, they emailed saying their system had reported a missing smoke detector at 3 a.m. They demanded €500 right away and said I wouldn't get the door code back otherwise. I thought the email might be a scam, so I called the property. The woman confirmed she'd checked the room after the alarm. I don't smoke or burn incense, and I hadn't removed anything. When I got back, a detector was still hanging there. I contacted booking.com and the police. After that, the hotel said they'd been mistaken: the alert was about incense sticks, not smoke, though I hadn't used those either. The email included an online payment link. When I packed, I found the second detector on a shelf behind my work things. I also remembered sending a short video when I arrived that clearly showed there had only ever been one detector hanging. I left immediately and booked another hotel.

At checkout, they knocked at exactly 11 a.m. and told us to leave because the cleaners were there. They wouldn't give us even one extra minute. We'd asked 10 days ahead to check in at 1:30 instead of 3. They said the room wouldn't be ready until 3, so we waited nearly two hours in heavy rain with the kids. They called us at 2:54 p.m., then stopped responding. The access code finally came by text at 3:25. Management showed no cooperation.

The location was the only acceptable part. After a 25-hour flight, we couldn't shower because the shower drain was blocked. By nearly 2 p.m. the next day, more than 35 hours later, it still hadn't been fixed. The mattresses were badly sagged in the middle, making a clear U shape, and the springs made loud noises with even a tiny movement. Staff insisted the room was fine, wouldn't move us, and refused a refund even when we begged to check out and go elsewhere. Don't stay here. It was a disaster and a nightmare.

The apartment had plenty of space and the essentials, including a washing machine. Getting around was easy, and it was close to the center. Good value overall, and we'd stay again. The kitchen sink was a little small, and the kettle leaked.
