Hotel Berlin Mitte By Campanile

We booked five months ahead because of the rating, and that was a big mistake. Our room was disgusting, with stained carpet and curtains that looked as if something had been thrown down them. Breakfast was mediocre. One day the toilet wouldn't flush, but the desk staff wouldn't do anything because maintenance had gone home. Another morning the shower water was scalding, so we couldn't use it. We couldn't move rooms because the hotel was full. You can decide!

I paid the full amount before arriving, but after a family death made it look like I might not be able to travel, I asked for a refund or to cancel so the hotel could rebook the room. They refused the refund, which is fair enough, but then asked me to pay almost the original booking price even though I wouldn't be going. I also read that if I didn't show up, they'd charge my original payment method the fee. This is crazy. £120 for a night I won't spend a single minute in bed, haha. If you're not completely committed to staying here in Berlin, don't book.

The area is close to the city's main attractions, and they let you leave your bags after checkout and collect them later. Rooms are clean and roomy enough for two, and the staff are welcoming even at night. I didn't try breakfast, though I saw plenty of food in the restaurant. My only small complaint is that there's no bar open inside.

The breakfast selection is great, and the rooms and beds, though really small, were clean. Our room had no AC, just a basic fan to cool it down. The hotel is near the centre and close to tram and subway stops, with lots of attractions within walking distance if that's your preference.
