Erlanger Hof

The room was clean and simple, and I'd definitely stay again. I chose it because I could walk to the concert hall, and it was also on a direct bus route from Berlin Central station. The toilet didn't flush well, which is the only reason I'd take off a star, though it may have been just that room. One thing to keep in mind, the hotel isn't very accessible for people with walking difficulties.

The rooms are a good size for the price, and the hotel feels like a real bargain. It's hard to find rooms this big for so little in most Western European cities. The rooms themselves were quite nice and clean, even if the halls felt a bit lackluster. I'd call it a solid 3-star hotel, with room to improve. The shower drain was clogged and backed up after only three minutes. There was also a very strong light shining in from the neighboring building. The blackout curtains didn't cover the whole window, so the light woke me several times each night. Neighbors were usually quiet, but there were occasional bouts of shouting and slamming. The area is pretty decent, and in my view one of Berlin's best neighborhoods, with plenty of good places to eat. The metro takes a bit of a walk, though U7 is close. Staff were polite and friendly, but service would improve a lot if someone with a stronger grasp of English were always at the desk. With a few tweaks, this could easily be a 4- or even 5-star hotel.

As a woman traveling alone, I felt safe here. I had a private room that was quiet, comfortable, and secure, and the staff were very friendly. The hostel is near the main road, bars, cafes, and a shop, and there's a concierge around the clock. It's about 30 minutes from Berlin HBF and not far from Berghain or the East Side Gallery. I really enjoyed my stay at Erlanger Hof and will stay again next time I'm in Berlin.

I booked this for my parents, since I live nearby. It had what they needed: a quiet stay, decent amenities, and no frills.
