Gastehaus Lazarus

The rooms were clean and nicely presented, and the garden makes a peaceful place to come back to after a busy day. You leave a busy city street and find yourself in a quiet garden among apartments, the hospital, and the guesthouse, with owls calling at night. The Nordbahn station is very close, making it easy to get around Berlin. I was there in mid September and the rooms were great. I probably wouldn't choose it in midsummer because there was no air conditioning. Breakfast was bread, cold meats, and cheese, and I wasn't sure it was worth the price, especially if you have more time in the morning.

I spent a week here and loved it. The metro is less than a five minute walk away, and the hotel is well placed for the main tourist sights.

We liked having somewhere quiet to return to each evening after the busy city. I hadn't been to Berlin since 1977, and it was my wife's first visit. We stayed in late summer 2023. Everything was clean and comfortable, and breakfast set us up well for each day. Check-in was a little tricky. An older gentleman who worked there let my wife wait inside while he took me through the garden to the Hotel Grenzenfal.

The rooms were spacious and had what we needed, the location was good, and the staff were friendly. Check-in was straightforward enough, and our stay was fine. Still, the building is clearly a converted hospital wing, with a hospice still operating next door. That didn't bother everyone, but we found it a bit spooky at night because the walkways weren't well lit.
