The apartment was affordable and had everything basic I needed, with the place kept in good condition. Getting into the city was easy from this convenient location. Check-in was smooth too, the reservation page made the self-check-in process simple and arriving was hassle-free. I've been staying in the 1A apartments of Arbio for a year as a commuter, and I've felt at home there. The rooms are bright and modern, and check-in with a code is easy. The location is perfect, with plenty of places to eat and shop nearby. The service team is friendly and easy to reach by WhatsApp or phone, and they always help promptly. Thanks to the great team. My relatives had stayed at these apartments several times before, without any trouble under the previous owner. Arbio, the company now running them, handled things very differently. My family came to Berlin for the holidays on short notice, when most places were already booked, so they had to stay at different hotels during the trip. I booked a room at 1A Apartments in December 2022 for three nights in January 2023. It was an online booking, and I provided all my personal details and card information as the rules required. The hotel was meant to charge the card before check-in. My family stayed in the room, and we were in touch with the hotel throughout. Everything seemed fine. After checkout, they even messaged to thank us and ask whether my family had enjoyed the stay, so we assumed there was nothing else to sort out. Then, in April 2024, I was shocked to receive a demand from a debt collection agency for the hotel bill, plus interest, postage, telecommunications fees, and other charges. Arbio had not contacted me for over a year to say the room hadn't been paid, even though they had my phone number, address, email, and could message me through the booking site. If they had reached out, I would have paid straight away. Instead, they shared my information with the debt collector without my knowledge. The mistake was on their side: they had my card details but didn't charge the card. Since my family stayed in several hotels, I hadn't noticed this either. I've never had a letter like that before, and I was completely shocked by how they handled it. I called customer support several times. Each time, I was told I wasn't the only one with this issue, accounting was looking into my case, and someone might call back with a solution by the end of the day. I heard the same thing for several days, but nobody ever got back to me. I'm not disputing the hotel payment itself. What I object to is being charged extra on top of the hotel rate and having my information sent to a third party when they could simply have contacted me. Awful experience.
