I called several times over the days before my stay and never reached anyone. I still thought someone would let me in, but when I arrived at the stated check-in time, nobody opened the door. I tried calling again for about half an hour and got no answer. It was the right number, the right day and the right check-in time. Then they wanted to charge me for not showing up. If I hadn’t been able to stay spontaneously at a friend’s place, I’d have had nowhere to sleep. How can you run a hostel like this?

Update: another user has confirmed that the guesthouse is now being used to house homeless people and those seeking shelter, and is no longer operating. I stayed there in 2010. It was in a typical old Berlin apartment building in Wedding, and the shared kitchen made the place feel a bit like a shared flat.
