Propeller Island City Lodge carries Berlin’s offbeat artistic spirit right into the hotel. Propeller Island is the pseudonym of German artist Lars Stroschen, whose usual work is in audio-visual art. This place feels handmade in every detail, with a DIY approach taken to the extreme. It’s original, uncopied, and completely unique. Each room has its own character. In “Two Lions,” you can choose between sleeping in elevated cages or in a twin bed below; in the “Padded Room,” everything is covered in green leather. If those are a bit much, there are gentler options too. The “Blue Room,” with mirrored sails all around, is one of the most popular City Lodge rooms.
