The Brandenburg Gate Hostel

The location is really good, and the room was clean, as were the two showers available to the hostel. But the double room we booked looked much nicer in the pictures. What we got was a corridor turned into a room, with two single beds lined up. There was no headboard, so all night I had to keep my pillow from slipping out from under my head. We won't book there again.

The room was barely furnished, with little lighting and no atmosphere. The window wouldn't close, the toilet door wouldn't lock, and there weren't enough showers. We checked in on Friday afternoon and were met by a very hostile, unfriendly receptionist who seemed unused to dealing with guests. We’ll be back in Berlin, but we’ll choose another hostel. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

I booked a place at Potzdamer Platz with two separate beds, but got a double bed in a location outside Berlin. When I tried to cancel, they charged my account straight away and said cancellation wasn't possible. At check-in, the receptionist spoke no English, despite the listing saying they did, and asked for another €20. He said through Google Translate that he’d check what it was for, but ten minutes later the money had been taken from my account and he just handed us a receipt. There wasn't even a mirror in the room. A horrible place, and I’d never recommend it. Save yourself the trouble.

We were two couples travelling with a child each, so sharing one six-bed room wasn't going to work. We’d rented a three room flat, but when we arrived, they had no such flat, and it apparently didn't even exist. We had to find somewhere else to stay and lost 450€. Horrible place.
